Welder Trade

Qualification Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to:

  • Join metal products in accordance with Welding Procedure Specifications using an electric arc or gas welding process.

Entry Level Requirements:

NQF Level 1 qualification with Mathematics and Science

Skills obtained:

  • The ability to cut, gouge and gas weld ferrous materials.
  • The ability to weld ferrous materials including stainless steel using Shielded Metal Arc Welding.
  • The ability to weld ferrous and non-ferrous materials using Gas Metal Arc Welding processes.
  • The ability to weld ferrous and non-ferrous materials using the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process.

  • Entrepreneur / Contractor
  • As a Welder in any of the industries listed

Approximate Trade Duration:

Off the job practical training

Phase 1  :  Duration – 12 Weeks 

Phase 2 – Duration – 12 Weeks

Phase 3 – Duration – 8 Weeks

Phase 4 – Duration – 4 Weeks (Revision and Trade Test)

Workplace (on the job) experience

12 to 18 months
