Electrical Trade

Qualification Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as an Electrician.

  • Electricians plan, prepare install, test, connect, commission, maintain, alter, and repair electrical equipment, wiring and control systems and apply the knowledge and skills obtained, in a variety of contexts.

Entry Level Requirements:

NQF Level 1 (Grade 9) qualification with Mathematics and Science

Skills Obtained:

  • The ability to plan and prepare work site, equipment, tools, consumables and materials for electrical activities and operations.
  • The ability to install, wire and connect electrical equipment and control systems.
  • The ability to test and inspect electrical equipment, control systems and installations.
  • The ability to commission control systems and installations.
  • The ability to maintain and repair electrical equipment, control systems and installations.

  • Entrepreneur / Contractor
  • As an Electrician in any of the industries listed

Approximate Trade Duration:

Off the job practical training

Phase 1  :  Duration – 15 Weeks 

Phase 2 – Duration – 12 Weeks

Phase 3 – Duration – 8 Weeks

Phase 4 – Duration – 4 Weeks (Revision and Trade Test)

Workplace (on the job) experience

12 to 18 months
